Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy. Beakley, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was designated a naval aviator in November 1926. He served on USS Utah, destroyer Mahan, and with squadrons attached to USS Langley, seaplane tender Wright, and cruisers Trenton and Marblehead. From 1935-1937, he was assigned to USS Lexington. Robert William Cavenaugh was born November 18, 1904, in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy in June 3, 1926, and advanced through ranks to rear admiral on July 1, 1954. He served as commander of Destroyer Squadron Five from December 1948 to January 1950, and as Commandant, Fourth Naval District from 1961 to 1965. Cavenaugh died April 3, 1995, in Bethesda, Maryland.
